Now, a Platinum Credit Card

Does Jim Matheson Agree With His Liberal Allies To Unilaterally Raise The Debt Ceiling?

WASHINGTON – Jim Matheson’s liberal allies will do just about anything to avoid cutting spending. First, they hatched the plan to mint a trillion-dollar platinum coin to cover our debt. Now, Matheson’s fellow House Democrats want President Obama to use the 14th Amendment to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling.

Since Matheson has supported the reckless Obama spending policies that have caused this crisis, does he support this latest scheme to rack-up even more debt?

“Jim Matheson and his Washington allies are in denial that our country has a spending problem,” said NRCC Communications Director Andrea Bozek. “These crazy ideas, like platinum coins and platinum credit cards, are just more excuses for Washington to spend more money our country does not have. It’s time for Matheson to admit that spending is the problem.”

More Than 20 House Democrats Signed A Letter To President Obama Urging Him To Unilaterally Raise The Debt Ceiling Via The 14th Amendment. “More than 20 Democratic members of Congress have signed onto a letter urging the president use an obscure constitutional provision to attempt to circumvent any resistance in Congress to raising the debt ceiling. They claim the 14th Amendment, which contains a section stating that “the validity of the public debt of the United States…shall not be questioned,” would allow Obama to raise the debt limit by himself.” (“House Dems Urge Obama To Raise Debt Ceiling Unilaterally If Republicans Resist,” Fox News, 1/9/13)

Nancy Pelosi Said “If I Were President, I’d Use The 14th Amendment” To Raise The Debt Ceiling. “PELOSI: In fact, if I were president, I’d use the 14th Amendment, which says that the debt of the United States will always be paid. SCHIEFFER: You would just go ahead and do it, you wouldn’t wait for the Congress? PELOSI: I would just go do it.” (CBS’ “Face The Nation,” 1/6/13)

In A Meeting With Speaker John Boehner, President Obama Said Our Country Doesn’t Have A Spending Problem. “‘At one point several weeks ago,” Mr. Boehner says, “the president said to me, ‘We don’t have a spending problem.’” (Stephen Moore, The Education Of John Boehner, The Wall Street Journal, 1/6/13)

Fellow Democrat Jerrold Nadler Proposed Creating A Trillion-Dollar Coin As A Way To Pay Off Our Nation’s Debt. “Paying off the national debt could be as easy as reaching for coins in your pocket — platinum $1 trillion coins….So supporters — including Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) — say that President Barack Obama should order that a couple of platinum trillion-dollar coins be made and then have the coins deposited in to the Fed and, voilà, debt ceiling crisis averted.” (Kevin Cirilli, Rep. Jerry Nadler: Pay National Debt With Platinum,” Politico, 1/4/13)
