The Curious Case of the Missing Blue Wave
With the economy roaring, The Great American Comeback has sparked a political rise for Republicans.
For months, we’ve heard from Democrats and their friends in the media that a “Blue Wave” is coming and Republicans will be washed away in the upcoming midterms. To heck with voters they said—the election is already a foregone conclusion.
They spoke too soon.
In an impressive and—considering the historic handicap the party in power has going into midterms—remarkable turnaround, Republicans are now leading in the most recent generic ballot poll. As Politico reports-
Republicans have erased the Democratic advantage on the generic congressional ballot in a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll that, for the first time since April, also shows President Donald Trump’s approval rating equaling the percentage of voters who disapprove of his job performance.
Fully 39 percent of registered voters say they would support the GOP candidate for Congress in their district, while 38 percent would back the Democratic candidate. Nearly a quarter of voters, 23 percent, are undecided.
Even a private poll conducted and paid for by a Democratic Super PAC couldn’t ignore the significant shift in public opinion toward Republicans.
As the polling suggests, lower taxes and rising wages have crushed Democrats’ electoral fantasy with the reality that Americans are confident the country is on the right track thanks to the Republican agenda.
