Rangel Enjoys ‘Full Support’

October 8, 2008

If there are any cracks in the Democratic Caucus in their support of embattled Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel of New York, it’s not coming from the Congressional Black Caucus.

The CBC, chaired by California Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee, wrote a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to voice their continued support for the New York Democrat following an unsuccessful Republican effort on the House floor to oust him from his powerful chairmanship.

“As Members of the Congressional Black Caucus, we support our colleague Charlie Rangel, Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means, and condemn partisan attempts to ignore the well-established, bipartisan congressional ethics process,” Lee wrote. Rangel is a founding member of the CBC and one of the group’s current 42 members. He is also one of four CBC members who are also committee chairmen.
