Would Vilsack Keep The Government Takeover Of Healthcare?

January 3, 2009

Good Morning,

Today, Christie Vilsack will be in Clear Lake where she will continue to duck questions concerning her real stance on the key issues. One year ago today, Vilsack’s Democrat colleagues voted to keep the government takeover of healthcare which kept the $500 billion cut to Medicare in place. (Roll Call #14, 1/19/11)

Will Vilsack come clean with her support of the government takeover of healthcare on this important anniversary?

It’s well past time for Vilsack to answer these basic questions. She has spent her entire campaign ducking from voters, asking constituents to answer their own questions and declining to give specific policy stances. She even managed to frustrate one of the top non-partisan political columnists in the nation with her non-answers. Stu Rothenberg said, “I also found a candidate who would not take a position on whether she would have supported the Obama health care bill; the Colombia, South Korea and Panama free-trade agreements; or raising the debt ceiling…Her response each time was that she wasn’t in Congress so she didn’t have to decide how to vote. (In frustration, I jokingly asked her about the 1964 Civil Rights Act and received the same sort of response.)” (Roll Call, 10/27/2011)

“Christie Vilsack can’t fool Iowa voters, they understand she is desperately trying to distance herself from Obama’s disastrous policies she once supported. What’s frightening is the fact she wants to keep the government takeover of healthcare in place, which would endanger Medicare and severely limit seniors’ access to care.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Andrea Bozek
