NRCC goes on offensive against Murphy in NY-20

March 9, 2009

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) launched an ad for the special election in New York’s 20th congressional district alleging Democrat Scott Murphy has much in common with controversial Wall Street CEOs.

The ad alleges that while at the helm of a New York company, Murphy handed down bonuses to executives, even though the company was in the red.

“Scott Murphy approved hundreds of thousands in bonuses for executives of a company losing money,” the ad says.

The ad also mirrors the unpopular news of executives from banks receiving bailout funds awarding bonuses to executives while seeking the federal government’s assistance. New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has investigated whether former Merrill Lynch CEO purposely awarded bonuses before the company was acquired by Bank of America.

Murphy faces Republican James Tedisco in the March 31st special election to fill Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s (D-N.Y.) old seat in Congress.
