Tedisco Targets Geithner On AIG, Murphy Targets Tedisco On Stimulus

Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco is upping the AIG ante in the 20th CD race today by double-dog daring his Democratic opponent, Scott Murphy, to join him in calling for the resignation of embattled US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

As more details emerge about what he knew, and when he informed the President, it is clear that fallout from the AIG bonus scandal has permanently compromised any ability of Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to lead,” Tedisco said in a press release.
“In these challenging times, our country can ill-afford to have a Treasury Secretary who does not command the full confidence and trust of the American people.”

“I believe that, in the best interests of our country, Secretary Geithner should tender his resignation. We need a Treasury Secretary whose first priority will be protecting and fighting for the economic interests of Main Street, not defending the inexcusable actions of AIG.”

“In the interest of bi-partisanship, I am asking Scott Murphy to join me in calling for a new direction in leadership at the Treasury Department. News that Congress is considering a legislative remedy to address the AIG scandal is heartening. Hopefully, this time Members will actually vet the legislation before they vote.”

This is a continuation of what Jimmy Vielkind yesterday deemed the “AIG-ization” of the 20th CD race, in which Tedisco and the NRCC are accusing Murphy of being somehow complicit in the firm’s bonus scandal by supporting the stimulus package, and Murphy and the DCCC are slamming Tediso for (finally) taking a position on the stimulus (he would have voted “no”)…
