Guinta eyes run for Capitol Hill

Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta took a giant step with his political future Friday, filing an exploratory committee to run for Congress in the 1st District.

Guinta announced last month that he would not seek re-election as mayor of the state’s largest city for a third term….

Like clockwork, he filed the exploratory papers with the Federal Elections Committee today.

The Republican Congressional Campaign Committee issued a statement touting Guinta’s decision. Other Republican activists have said they too are considering such a campaign, but Guinta is the first to take this formal step.

In recent months, Guinta has taken several trips to Washington to meet with national GOP leaders.
