Going to the Dogs, and an Elephant
…Meanwhile, the National Republican Congressional Committee began running radio advertisements on Wednesday against five members of the Blue Dog coalition, a group of fiscally conservative House Democrats.
The spots accuse the members – Marion Berry of Arkansas, Charlie Melancon of Louisiana, Earl Pomeroy of North Dakota, Zack Space of Ohio and John Tanner of Tennessee – of being less Blue Dog and more lapdog for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Obama. Each of the five congressmen represent a district that Mr. McCain won easily in the 2008 presidential election.
“The Blue Dog Democrats love preaching that they’re fiscal watchdogs when they’re at home, but they have done nothing but relent to Nancy Pelosi and give a blank-check to reckless spending in Washington,” NRCC spokesman Ken Spain said in a release.
As dogs bark in the background, the segments chastise the five members for supporting the $787 billion stimulus package (“That’s billion with a ‘B’”) and implore them to “start being a watchdog for our money.” The NRCC would not go into specifics about how frequently the spots would run in the individual districts, but a spokesman said the buy was significant and that the segments would run for a week.
