GOP: Melancon more 'lap dog' than Blue Dog

National Republicans began airing a new round of attack ads Wednesday that call U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon a “lap dog” for liberal Democratic leaders.

The National Republican Conference Committee launched radio ads to run through the week in the districts of five conservative Democrats, including Melancon, D-Napoleonville. Melancon is a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of fiscally conservative Democrats.

“Charlie Melancon loves preaching that he’s a fiscal watchdog when he’s at home, but he has done nothing but relent to (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi and give a blank check to reckless spending in Washington,” Ken Spain, a spokesman for the NRCC, said in a statement.

Other targets of the ads are U.S. Reps. Marion Berry of Arkansas, Earl Pomeroy of North Dakota, Zack Space of Ohio and John Tanner of Tennessee…
