NRCC giggles at Grayson's expense
Hardly a day goes by that the National Republican Congressional Committee doesn’t take a whack at freshman U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, about something real or imagined. Grayson, you’ll recall, snatched his seat from incumbent Ric Keller last fall, and the GOP badly wants it back. So the NRCC rails about everything from Grayson’s support of President Barack Obama’s deficit-enhancing economic stimulus plan to Grayson’s unsuccessful attempt to earmark $350,000 to J. Willie David and the Florida Civil Rights Association, a group known more for rhetroic than accomplishment.
The NRCC’s latest rant, by its communications director, Ken Spain, responds to a blog post by the Sentinel’s Mark K. Matthews that Grayson is considering joining a Libertarian-sponsored “Tea Party” on July 4. Grayson’s a co-sponsor of a bill backed by Libertarian favorite U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, that would require an audit of the Federal Reserve to track what officials at the generally secretive agency are doing with more than $2 trillion in various monies dedicated to bailing out banks or the economy. But otherwise, Grayson’s far from a “live free or die” kind of politician. Matthews noted that he’s likely to meet Tea Party attendees who don’t share his enthusiasm for Obama’s economic recovery plan or deficit spending in general.
But it feel to Spain to find some real political humor in the situation:
“Alan Grayson at a small-government rally is a bit like Paris Hilton at a MENSA meeting – it makes no sense whatsoever, but it sure would be fun to watch. Who’s bringing popcorn?” Spain was quoted in a release.
