Dennis Moore: Gitmo Detainees Are Alright With Me

Kansas Democrat Stands Alone On The Possibility Of Terrorists Coming To Kansas Backyards

Washington- As the clock ticks on Obama’s goal of shutting down Guantanamo Bay by January, the administration must decide what to do with the detainees. According to the Associated Press, the next possible stop could be Kansas. As Democrat Governor Mark Parkinson joins Republican Representatives to publicly protest the terrorist detainees from coming to Kansas, Moore is the lone member of the Kansas Congressional delegation welcoming such a disastrous move.

Unfortunately for Kansans, Moore might be on board with Detainees coming to Kansas. In a recent statement, Moore demonstrates just how quickly he is to bow to the demands of his party bosses. It seems that if it’s alright with Democrat leaders, then it’s alright with him:

“Only 2nd District Congressman Dennis Moore, the state’s lone Democrat representative, didn’t reject the notion out of hand, with his office on Monday reissuing a position statement in which he said he was committed to ‘ensuring that the transfer of Guantanamo detainees is done in a thoughtful manner – consistent with the public safety and the existing missions of potential U.S.-based prison sites – is of the utmost importance. I hope the Obama Administration will take care to fully examine all options, including the possibility of keeping the detainees in Guantanamo… and that these individuals are swiftly tried through whatever legal process is determined to be most appropriate.” (Bill Blankenship, The Topeka Capital-Journal, 8/04/2009)

“It says a lot about where Dennis Moore’s priorities lie if he is willing to place terrorists in the backyards of his own constituents just so he can provide political cover for his party’s flawed strategy,” said NRCC Communications Director. “While Kansans remain concerned for the safety of their families if this plan goes through, they now have the added burden of wondering what further extent Moore is willing to go in order to appease his Democrat leadership.”

With time running out and the administration facing a difficult decision, will the answer of where to transfer the detainees be Kansas? With Dennis Moore in Congress, Kansans certainly can’t rule that option out.
