Where’s Russ Carnahan’s “Town Hall on Manners?”

Over a Week Later, Missouri Families Are Still Awaiting The Lecture

Washington- Over a week after a St. Louis County town hall in which constituents expressed opposition to government-run healthcare, Missouri families are still waiting for Congressman Russ Carnahan to fulfill the promises he made that night. At the end of an Aug. 6 town hall on healthcare, Carnahan said he’d host his next town hall on “manners.”

“Congressman Carnahan’s last words were to invite the crowd to a future town hall meeting on ‘manners.’  He then said some last words to his staff and ducked out of the gym’s back door.” (Michael Calhoun, “Arrests follow contentious health care forum,” KMOX)

In a radio interview following the event, he promised to continue holding town halls no matter how much opposition he encountered:

“Carnahan said he won’t be deterred from holding more forums. ‘Having town hall meetings is one of the favorite parts of my job and I will continue to do that.” (Radio interview with KMOX)

“As insulting as Russ Carnahan’s ‘town hall on manners’ promises to be, it’d surely be better than the deafening silence Missourians are hearing right now,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Instead of lecturing his constituents on ‘manners,’ Carnahan should show some humility, come before voters and listen to their concerns like he promised.”
