The Fabulous Life of Dina Titus
Titus Wines and Dines Donors in Beverly Hills as Nevadans Suffer
Washington- With cameras flashing around Dina Titus at her Beverly Hills fundraiser last week, one might think that the Nevada Congresswoman was hosting a red-carpet event. Instead, Titus was in the tony enclave to pull in campaign cash while her constituents back home were left to fend for themselves as the local economy dives further into disarray. With Las Vegas’ unemployment rate at an astronomical 13.1 percent and Nevadans concerned about the future of healthcare, Dina Titus shirked her duties to address these pressing issues with Nevadans in favor of pretending she’s a celebrity in California:
“On Wednesday, August 19, 2009, Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV03) held a fundraising event and discussion of current political issues in Beverly Hills, CA as part of her effort to raise awareness about healthcare and energy reform…”(Anastasios Papapostolou, “Dina Titus Fundraising Event in LA,” Greek USA Reporter, 8/22/2009)
“Dina Titus clearly needs a reality check,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “With Las Vegas’ unemployment continuing to rise, Nevada facing the highest foreclosure rates in the country, and middle-class families concerned about the Democrats’ government healthcare takeover, Titus is wining and dining in Beverly Hills. If her votes for job-killing policies aren’t proof enough that Titus is out of touch with Nevadans, she just added insult to injury by lining her campaign coffers while taxpayers back home are once again left without a leader.”
Titus’s support of the job-killing stimulus should be proof positive that she is out of touch with Nevadans:
“The Las Vegas-Paradise metro area, including all of Clark County, has been particularly hard hit, with an unemployment rate of 13.1 percent. It is not only the highest unemployment rate among Nevada’s metro areas, it also ranks in the top five across all areas of similar size in the U.S.” (Cy Ryan, Jobless rate leaps to 13.1 percent in Las Vegas, Las Vegas Sun, 8/21/2009)
And despite promises to use August as a time to listen to constituent concerns on healthcare, Dina Titus soaks up the glitz and glamour of Beverly Hills:
“Titus said she was speaking to community groups across her District 3 during the congressional summer break — ‘anywhere that will invite us.’ She also addressed health care later in the day during a tour of a community health center in Las Vegas.
‘I want to hear opinions,’ she told the Boulder City Rotarians, who were meeting at St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. ‘That’s what we are doing this month, listening before we go back to vote.’” (Jean Reid Norman, “Titus outlines concerns with health care bill,” Las Vegas Sun, 8/05/2009)
Hopefully for Nevadans, Titus will take a break from living the lifestyle of the rich and famous and finally focus on her job. Perhaps if she pays closer attention to Nevada’s families she can avoid another grave misstep and vote against her party’s job-killing, tax-hiking government healthcare takeover – but Nevadans probably shouldn’t hold their breath.
