Teague Dismissed Climate Change but Fundraises With Radical Global Warming Activist
Washington- Today, “Energy secretary [Stephen Chu] praises Teague for his leadership on climate change, attends campaign fundraiser for the congressman” headline was splashed on New Mexico Politics. But unbeknownst to Chu, Teague’s two-day energy stint is nothing more than a desperate attempt to garner financial and political support. In Chu’s blind effort to push his radical policies, he must have missed Teague’s recent statements admitting he wasn’t sure if global warming even existed:
“One question that did get an answer was, since he had voted for legislation that would provide tax dollars to fight global warming, did he believe in global warming? His answer was, “I don’t know if I believe in it or not. I am not a scientist.” (Glenn Thrush, “Teague stumped on global warming”, Politico, 7/08/2009)
“Harry Teague was not elected by the people of New Mexico to betray their interests and then bring in a radical San Francisco ideologue to spin his poor judgment for him,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Given Teague’s track record of constantly bowing at the feet of his left-wing party leaders, it unfortunately comes as no surprise that he and Chu see eye to eye on the job-killing cap-and-trade bill that was forced through Congress by Nancy Pelosi. After admitting he didn’t know if global warming existed, it’s a slap in New Mexican taxpayers’ face that he voted for the National Energy Tax that will devastate the people he is supposed to represent and now he is using his misguided vote to garner political and financial clout.”
And unfortunately for Teague and Chu, it seems their push to promote green jobs will only kill more in the process:
“Subsidizing renewable energy in the U.S. may destroy two jobs for every one created if Spain’s experience with windmills and solar farms is any guide. For every new position that depends on energy price supports, at least 2.2 jobs in other industries will disappear, according to a study from King Juan Carlos University in Madrid…The premiums paid for solar, biomass, wave and wind power – – which are charged to consumers in their bills — translated into a $774,000 cost for each Spanish ‘green job’ created since 2000, said Gabriel Calzada, an economics professor at the university and author of the report. ‘The loss of jobs could be greater if you account for the amount of lost industry that moves out of the country due to higher energy prices,’ he said in an interview.” (Gianluca Baratti, “Job Losses From Obama Green Stimulus Foreseen in Spanish Study,” Bloomberg, 3/27/09)
Apparently for Teague it pays to shamelessly promote something you don’t believe in, unfortunately for him New Mexicans probably don’t agree.
