Will Bobby Bright Take The Pelosi Pledge?
With One Democrat Already Withdrawing His Support for Pelosi, NRCC Calls on Bright to Take a Stand
Washington- As Nancy Pelosi continues to strong-arm her divisive and radical policies through Congress and onto the American people, Americans and fellow Democrats have lost faith in her ability to lead. Last week, Alabama Democrat Parker Griffith took a stand against his party’s reckless agenda when he told a gathering of constituents that he could no longer support Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House because she is too ‘divisive’ and ‘polarizing’ to successfully lead the country out of troubled times:
“Christie Carden, the 25-year-old organizer of the Huntsville Tea Party Movement, asked if he would vote for Pelosi for speaker again. Griffith said that if matter came up for a vote today, ‘I would not vote for her. Someone that divisive and that polarizing cannot bring us together.’” (Patricia McCarter, “Applause, Boos Greet Lawmaker,” Huntsville Times, 8/25/09)
Now, fellow Democrat Bobby Bright has the opportunity to stand with his colleague and the American people by signing a pledge promising that, if House leadership elections were held today, he would not support Pelosi’s bid for Speaker of the House. The pledge will be hand-delivered to Bright’s office today by the National Republican Congressional Committee. Text of the pledge is below:
Take A Stand: The Pelosi Pledge
Whereas Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to strong-arm her divisive and radical policies through Congress and onto the American people, leading Americans and fellow Democrats to lose faith in her ability to lead.
Whereas during Speaker Pelosi’s tenure, she has wasted over a trillion dollars, pushed through a National Energy Tax, and facilitated the largest deficit in American history.
Whereas Speaker Pelosi now has her eyes set on a radical, irresponsible healthcare plan that may be the final straw for Democrats and Republicans alike.
Whereas last week, fellow Democrat Congressman Parker Griffith told a group of constituents that he could no longer support Pelosi in her position as Speaker of the House. According to Griffith “I would not vote for her. Someone that divisive and that polarizing cannot bring us together.” (Huntsville Times, 8/25/09)
Whereas Americans are clamoring for more jobs, fewer taxes, and less government spending, but Nancy Pelosi has proven herself incapable of providing the leadership necessary to solve the country’s problems.
Resolved, if House leadership elections were held today, I, Representative Bobby Bright pledge that I would not vote for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House.
Signed,
X________________________
Bobby Bright, Member of Congress
