Will Steve Kagen Listen as Local Business Groups Oppose Healthcare Takeover?

As Democrats Push Reckless Agenda, Local Businesses Speak Out

Washington– As Steve Kagen’s party continues their attempts to force through a failing healthcare agenda, local businesses and business groups continue to speak out about the threat of a government healthcare takeover to the country’s economic well-being. As the devastating impact of the Democrats’ plans continue to dominate the healthcare debate across the country, it looks like Steve Kagen is ready to go toe-to-toe with the very businesses that would be the driving force behind a long-awaited economic recovery.

With the Democrats’ plan on life support, local groups such as the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, the Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce and Industry joined over 3,000 local businesses and business groups across the country in opposition to the push for a government-run healthcare system:

“The creation of a new government-run insurance plan is a step in the wrong direction. Employers currently suffer a significant cost-shift from existing public programs, and the program described in House legislation would significantly increase costs for every American who purchases private insurance.” (Letter from National and Local Business Associations to Members of Congress, 9/9/09)

“Does Steve Kagen really want to square off against the local Wisconsin businesses that could be the engines of economic recovery?” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “With local business leaders joining Americans across the country in their concern that the Democrats’ healthcare agenda will be a job-killer, it seems that Steve Kagen is the only one who doesn’t realize the devastating consequences of a government healthcare takeover.”
