Credibility Crash: Administration Plans Its Next Attempt to Save Face after Unemployment Breaks Double Digits

President Barack Obama said on Thursday he would hold a summit in December to look at ways of boosting job growth, acknowledging that high unemployment is one of the “great challenges” facing his administration.

Obama, facing a 10.2 percent U.S. unemployment rate, said that while his administration had taken bold steps to tackle the economic crisis, “economic growth has not led to the job growth we desperately need.”

Speaking at the White House before departing on a weeklong Asia trip, Obama said chief executives, trade union leaders, small business owners and economic experts would be invited to the summit. (“Obama Says to Hold Jobs Summit in December,” Reuters, 11/12/09)
