John Callahan Backs MoveOn.org’s Push for Government Healthcare Takeover

Democrat Candidate Won’t Take a Healthcare Stance But Is Perfectly Willing to Protest with Radical Left-Wing Group

Washington- Democrat candidate John Callahan has made a point of refusing to take a position on his party’s government takeover of healthcare. While he’s still hiding behind political doublespeak, it’s hard to deny that Callahan’s actions reveal his stance. Yesterday, Callahan appeared with MoveOn.org, a radical left-wing group, at a healthcare protest outside his opponent’s office.

“The debate surrounding health care reform took center stage outside Congressman Charlie Dent’s Bethlehem office Thursday. Members of the group MoveOn.org staged a rally protesting his vote against the House bill that passed this weekend, and they were joined by a special speaker.”

“Mayor Callahan came out here demanding a change to the status quo.” (“Callahan Joins Health Care Rally Outside Dent’s Office,” WFMZ-TV, 11/12/09)

Unsurprisingly, Callahan couldn’t resist the opportunity to contradict himself, attacking his opponent for voting against a bill containing the very same disastrous provisions that Callahan claims to oppose:

“The 50-person crowd was there to criticize Dent for voting against the House bill that expands health insurance coverage and places restrictions on insurance providers. Callahan, a Democrat, said the country is in dire need of health care reform.”

“Callahan declined to say if he would have voted for the House bill, but that he would support health care reform that doesn’t increase the country’s debt, allows people to go to doctors of their choosing and doesn’t do away with Medicare and Medicaid. The House bill does all three, Callahan said.” (Lynn Olanoff, “John Callahan Joins Health Care Rally Outside Charlie Dent’s Office in Bethlehem,” Express-Times, 11/12/09)

“Even for a guy who has based his entire campaign on talking out of both sides of his mouth, standing side-by-side with radical leftists at a protest in front of his opponent’s office is a clear sign that John Callahan fully endorses his party’s reckless government takeover of healthcare,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “John Callahan still hasn’t staked out a position on the country’s most pressing policy issue, but his shallow line of attack is proof positive that he either actually supports his party’s push to raise taxes, kill jobs, and slash Medicare or simply doesn’t understand that being a member of Congress requires more than empty political posturing.”
