Report: Titus’ Stimulus Job Creation Numbers Ring Hollow

While Nevada Rakes in Hundreds of Millions of Federal Dollars, Titus Touts Faulty Stimulus Results

Washington- Nevadans are growing more and more frustrated these days as Democrat Dina Titus’ credibility dwindles and the state of Nevada’s economy teeters on the brink of disaster. Taxpayer funds continue to be shelled out under the Democrats’ so-called ‘stimulus’ bill passed earlier this year, but Nevadans have yet to see any real results – and now a report shows that jobs reports touted by government officials can’t be trusted thanks to inconsistent and faulty reporting guidelines. Without standards for tallying results, job-counts do not match up, leaving Nevadans to question the credibility and transparency of the Dina Titus’ failed economic policies.

The federal government says that in Nevada the stimulus has directly created or saved 5,658 jobs. The state itself puts that number at 5,080. Sen. Harry Reid’s office says it’s 6,134….

“Not only do the numbers not match up, but instead of representing real bodies in actual jobs, the numbers are estimates — the result of different state agencies using different formulas to calculate stimulus results….

“The American Recovery and Relief Act was passed by Congress this year. President Barack Obama said its goal was to create or save 3 million jobs over the next two years and promised an unprecedented level of transparency tracking its progress.” (David McGrath Schwartz, “Stimulus job-count guidelines frustrate,” Las Vegas Sun, 11/13/2009)

“With no standards for tallying job creation results, Nevada taxpayers cannot be expected to buy estimated numbers that do not match up,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “One cannot blame Nevadans for feeling cheated by Dina Titus’ failed attempt at economic recovery when the only results they can see are faulty and inconsistent job numbers and wasted tax dollars. Titus has cheated middle-class Nevada families out of their hard-earned tax dollars and given them nothing to show for it but more government and fewer jobs. Rather than focus on rebuilding Nevada’s shattered economy, Titus continues to support the Democrats’ so-called ‘stimulus’ plan that has sent Nevada barreling toward economic disaster.”

According to a recent study released by the Pew Center on the States, Nevada is red-flagged as one of the 10 states facing economic disaster. Currently facing a daunting unemployment rate of 13.3 percent, the study reveals that government actions such as increasing taxes to pay for more runaway spending will only drive Nevada into a further recession and jobless recovery. Nonetheless, Democrat Dina Titus continues to support her party’s failed economic policies, pushing Nevada into further economic disarray.
