John Callahan Gives Constituents the Gift of Higher Taxes

Washington- In a new radio ad blitz, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is targeting Democrat candidate and Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan for his disastrous and partisan record of raising property taxes and increasing spending. Callahan has offered his continuous support for the Democrats’ big-spending, big-government agenda by voting for or endorsing property tax increases four times in four years (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), including his own proposal to raise property taxes by 13.4 percent – the largest tax increase in 15 years. With his unwavering support for tax hikes over the years, it is plain to see that John Callahan’s true loyalty lies with his party’s big-government agenda, not the middle-class Pennsylvania families that he was elected to serve.

“John Callahan’s record of raising taxes four times in four years shows that he has abandoned fiscal discipline and adopted big-government policies that create bureaucracy, not jobs,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “After voting time and time again to pile on burdensome tax increases, it is clear that middle-class families of Pennsylvania cannot afford John Callahan’s reckless job-killing agenda.”

John Callahan was voting, again and again

An increase he supported on property tax

A five point five percent increase he surely did pass

That was way back in two thousand and two

The very next year, John knew what to do

With his beady round eyes and a smirk on his chin

Callahan voted to raise your taxes again.

Callahan became Mayor and just in a flash

Spoke out to his council and his need for more cash.

This increase was bigger, six point four percent

This money’s from you, he wants every last cent.

But the biggest and meanest increase of them all

Came at the next Christmas, just after the fall

A thirteen point four percent increase was had

John Callahan proposed it and now we’re plain mad.
