Democrats’ Big-Spending, Big-Government Policies Are Failing Mississippi Families, Leaving them Asking: Where are the Jobs?

Washington- Travis Childers must cringe every month when unemployment numbers are released and Mississippi families are reminded that their representative’s economic policies continue to fail them. It’s been almost a year since the Democrats’ ‘stimulus’ failure passed, but with Mississippi’s unemployment rate at 10.6 percent, middle-class families are still struggling. After spending a trillion dollars to stimulate the economy with minimal results, Mississippi families want to know: What is Travis Childers going to do about the economy?

Layoffs are on the rise and economists predict a bumpy road on the way to economic recovery:

“The number of newly-laid off workers seeking jobless benefits unexpectedly rose last week, as the economy recovers at a slow and uneven pace.

“Layoffs have slowed and the economy began to grow in last year’s third quarter, but companies are reluctant to hire new workers. The unemployment rate is 10 percent and many economists expect it to increase in the coming months.” (Christopher S. Rugaber, “Initial jobless claims unexpectedly rise,” Associated Press, 1/21/2010)

Rather than focusing on the struggling economy, Democrats continue to fixate on healthcare – even at their own expense:

“Honorable and intelligent people can disagree over the substance and details of what President Obama and congressional Democrats are trying to do on health care reform and climate change. But nearly a year after Obama’s inauguration, judging by where the Democrats stand today, it’s clear that they have made a colossal miscalculation.

“The latest unemployment and housing numbers underscore the folly of their decision to pay so much attention to health care and climate change instead of focusing on the economy… Last week’s disappointing December unemployment report was the final blow in what was already a bad week for Democrats.” (Charlie Cook, “Colossal Miscalculation On Health Care,” National Journal, 1/16/2010)

“Once again Mississippi’s unemployment numbers are grim and middle-calls families have Travis Childers to blame,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Rather than accepting the fact that the Democrats’ free-spending agenda has been an abject failure, Childers continues to be one of the biggest proponents of Nancy Pelosi’s policy agenda. After the Democrats’ failed policies cost them a Senate seat in Massachusetts, will Childers finally get a clue?”
