As Nevadans Lose Confidence in the Economy, Will Dina Titus Continue to Turn Her Back on them?

Americans Remain Downbeat As Democrats Push Reckless Tax-and-Spend Policies

Washington- In a recent Gallup poll measuring “Economic Confidence” by state, Americans’ outlook on the economy remained negative in 2009 and into January of 2010. Results from the poll conclude that low economic confidence is directly related to poor economic conditions, further emphasizing that Americans recognize the country is stuck in a jobless recovery. Residents of Nevada rate their state near the bottom, confirming that families are not buying into Dina Titus’ so-called stimulus plan or her big-government, tax-and-spend policies.

It remains abundantly clear that Democrats did not deliver meaningful economic stimulus in 2009, and now Gallup reveals that Nevadans are not buying the Democrats’ empty rhetoric either.  Economists agree:

“President Barack Obama’s job-creation program could produce a short-term political boost, but it’s unlikely to significantly stem job losses and reduce the unemployment rate anytime soon, according to economists.”

“‘He’s trying to turn his microeconomic policies into some macroeconomic solution. He’s grasping at straws,’ said Peter Morici, an economist at the University of Maryland.” (Jeanne Cummings, “Economists: Jobs fix won’t be quick,” Politico, 1/27/2010)

According to Gallup, Americans remained “downbeat” in their economic evaluations for 2009 and a month into 2010:

“Though the questions that constitute Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index ask respondents to evaluate the national economy, their local experiences surely color their assessments. Many of the states that have been especially hurt by the recent economic downturn rank among the 10 least confident states.”

“All states plus the District of Columbia had negative scores on Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index in 2009, with the District of Columbia and South Dakota being more optimistic than other states. The new year does not seem to have brought additional gains in consumer confidence thus far: a month into 2010, economic confidence remains in negative territory and similar to levels Gallup observed for much of 2009.” (Jeffrey M. Jones, “Economic Confidence: Wyoming, Michigan Most Negative,” Gallup, 2/8/2010)

“Middle-class Nevada families are feeling the sting of a struggling economy after Dina Titus and her fellow Democrats wasted the past year with their partisan focus on a reckless job-killing agenda ,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “As this jobless recovery drags on and stimulus results appear even more dismal, Nevada families continue to hear nothing but empty promises from Dina Titus and Washington Democrats. How much further will the economy have to sink before Titus finally realizes that her reckless policies are detrimental to Nevadans?”
