Republicans endorse Duffy for Congress

March 9, 2010

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Ashland County district attorney Sean Duffy picked up a key endorsement over the weekend in his bid to unseat Congressman Dave Obey this fall.

The 7th Congressional District Republican Party endorsed Duffy over Rudolph farmer Dan Mielke. Duffy won with 84 percent of the vote. Mielke got 16 percent of the vote.

“I’ve never seen the party more unified or more energized,” Duffy said in a statement. “Our positive message of job creation and fiscal responsibility has clearly resonated.”

Duffy and Mielke will face off in a September primary for a spot on the general election ballot November 2nd.

The endorsement is the second key one for the former reality TV star. Former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin endorsed him last month – the first House challenger candidate in America to get her nod of approval.
