Casts Vote to Allow Shady Backroom Scheme to Sneak Healthcare Bill Through Congress

Washington- With President Obama’s self-imposed deadline quickly approaching, Democrats like Baron Hill are uneasy about casting what could be a career ending vote on their party’s trillion-dollar healthcare takeover. Hill was apparently so nervous that today he cowardly supported moving forward with Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s controversial “Slaughter Solution.” This shady backroom loophole would ‘deem’ the healthcare bill passed by Congress without a clean up-or-down vote. House Republicans presented Hill with the opportunity to stand against Pelosi’s underhanded tricks, but he refused to take it. Instead, Hill turned his back on the millions of Americans who have already repeatedly rejected the Democrats’ healthcare bill. (See vote here)

“If the Senate health care bill is such a good plan, why are President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid resorting to arcane, secretive – and seemingly desperate – tactics to ram it through Congress? “The all-out effort to ram through the legislation before Easter recess is telling. If members of Congress merely risked being confronted by Potemkin crowds that don’t represent the majority of voters, there would be nothing to fear. However, Democratic strategists know these crowds are very real and very mad, and the mobs will rattle wavering congressional votes, especially in vulnerable districts. “…60 percent say that they are more likely to vote for a candidate who opposes this bill and wants to start over, while just 32 percent are more likely to vote against a candidate who takes this position. This suggests clearly that a “yes” vote is problematic. And now that the bill has a price tag of nearly a trillion dollars, Hill is clearly looking for cover as he prepares to walk the plank to force his party’s healthcare takeover onto the American people:

“Only in Washington can Democrats like Baron Hill use shady backroom tactics to pass a trillion-dollar government healthcare takeover and call it fiscally responsible,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Hill knows full well that Indiana families are strongly opposed to the Democrats’ job-killing healthcare takeover, but he sided with his partisan party bosses anyway. Hill may think he is sidestepping controversy by running from the Democrats’ politically toxic healthcare bill, but his support of these underhanded tactics could be the end of his political career.”
