NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions Statement on Passage of the Democrats’ Healthcare Takeover

Washington- National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX) made the following statement regarding the passage of the Democrats’ Healthcare Takeover:

“The decision by President Obama and the Democrat-led Congress to ignore the voters and ram their government takeover of healthcare down the throats of the American people will come at a steep political cost in November. The NRCC and Republican candidates running across the country will fight to hold Democrats accountable from now until Election Day.

“Over the past several weeks, the American people have witnessed first-hand a process fraught with corruption and backroom deal-cutting that enticed members of Congress, who would have otherwise voted in the interests of their constituents, into voting for this bill. Their arrogant dismissal of public opinion has resulted in a flagrant abuse of power by a tyrannical majority that is fixated on growing government at the expense of our economy. This healthcare takeover does nothing to lower the cost of healthcare, while raising taxes, cutting Medicare, and ballooning the deficit in a time of high unemployment and economic uncertainty.

“Those Democrats in swing districts, who supported the bill, might have made Speaker Pelosi very happy, but they are fueling a level of anger and frustration that already exists within the constituencies they claim to represent. Our mission is clear: We will continue to stand with the American people and fight on their behalf to wrest away control of the Speaker’s gavel and retire Nancy Pelosi in November.”
