Code Red to the DNC and Big Labor: Thank You for the Dina Titus Ads

DNC and Big Labor Remind Nevada Families That Titus Walked the Plank with Support for Government Healthcare Takeover

Washington- The Democratic National Committee (DNC) and big labor groups like the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) will be airing ads in key districts thanking vulnerable Democrats for their potentially career-ending votes for their party’s government healthcare takeover.  The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) would in turn like to thank the DNC and big labor groups for reminding Nevada voters that Dina Titus once again ignored Nevada families and backed her party bosses’ politically toxic healthcare agenda. The ads and a thank you note are available on the NRCC’s Code Red website. While polling has repeatedly shown that Titus’ healthcare takeover is a political loser, her friends in Washington are helping to push her out the door with an ad campaign that will only remind her Nevada constituents that she stands with Democrat leaders instead of the people she’s supposed to represent.

“The DNC and SEIU are airing TV and radio ads thanking vulnerable Dems for their health care votes. But does it help endangered Members to dwell on the issue?

“Dina Titus (D-NV 03) is one beneficiary of the SEIU “thank you” ads, but she told the local paper that she’s pivoting to jobs and the economy. And why not? Not only is the new health law not very popular, but nat’l polls show that, despite the recent obsession with health care, voters still list the economy as the top issue by huge margins.” “(To Your Health?, National Journal, 3/24/3010)

“Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) begin airing cable and broadcast television ads in 14 Congressional districts today thanking individual members of Congress for stopping health insurance companies from killing reform.” (“As President Prepares To Sign Health Care Bill, HCAN and AFSCME Start Airing Ads to Thank Members for Being on Our Side,” AFSCME Press Release, 3/23/2010)

“The NRCC would like to thank the DNC and big labor groups for spending over a million dollars to remind Nevada families of Dina Titus’ role in rubber-stamping her party’s government takeover of healthcare,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Dina Titus and her Democrat colleagues have continued to ignore the obvious fact that Americans do not want their radical healthcare agenda. Instead of listening, Titus helped ram her party’s healthcare takeover through Congress at the expense of Nevada families. Now, Titus will need more than paid ads to get her re-elected in November.”

“Their votes helped deliver President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul. Now, dozens of Democrats are politically imperiled in a contentious environment where emotions are raw and likely to remain so.

“Obama plans to use his political heft – and the momentum of victory – to try to prop up lawmakers who stuck with him during the final days that turned the controversial legislation into the law of the land.

“They’ll surely need his help.” (Philip Elliott, “They saved Obama’s bill; can he save their seats?,” Associated Press, 3/24/2010)

Once again, the NRCC extends its thanks to the DNC and big labor groups for helping to solidify Dina Titus’ loss in November.
