Thank You, Union and Party Bosses, for Thanking Vulnerable Democrats for Supporting Your Government Healthcare Takeover Monstrosity

Vulnerable Democrats Finally Reveal Who Bosses Them Around

The union bosses at SEIU and the national Democrat party announced Wednesday that they would start running TV ads in the districts of vulnerable House Democrats to say “Thank You” for their votes for Obama and Pelosi’s government takeover of healthcare:

“The DNC and SEIU are airing TV and radio ads thanking vulnerable Dems for their health care votes. But does it help endangered Members to dwell on the issue?

“– Dina Titus (D-NV 03) is one beneficiary of the SEIU ‘thank you’ ads, but she told the local paper that she’s pivoting to jobs and the economy. And why not? Not only is the new health law not very popular, but nat’l polls show that, despite the recent obsession with health care, voters still list the economy as the top issue by huge margins.

“– Meanwhile, primary challenges to Dem ‘no’ votes continue to pile up. Reports out today indicate that Michael McMahon’s (D-NY 13) ’08 challenger, Stephen Harrison (D), is considering a repeat challenge. And a well-known Dem physician in SD may attempt to challenge Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD AL).

“– The newest Dem to feel his base’s angst: John Barrow (D-GA 12). Liberals have long been disappointed by his moderate voting record, but he quieted troubles on his left when he easily dispatched of ex-state Sen. Regina Thomas (D) in ’08. She’s running again, but this time she may give him a race, as several black leaders are pulling their support from Barrow over his “no” on health care. In a primary where African-Americans make up 60% of the vote, that’s a potentially big concern.”

Code Red wants to thank SEIU and national Democrats for thanking these vulnerable Democrats. Thank you for drawing their constituents’ attention to their vote for budget-busting backroom deals. Please, keep the “Thank Yous” coming.

The problem is, these Democrats will likely say “No Thanks” to their union and party bosses.

Rep. Dina Titus (NV-03) sure doesn’t seem to want to talk about the government healthcare takeover:

“While most of the Democrats who voted for health care reform celebrated at a White House signing ceremony Tuesday morning, Rep. Dina Titus took a pass.

“Instead, the freshman congresswoman stayed behind in her office for a series of meetings with visitors from Nevada, including groups of health care professionals and teachers, and to prepare remarks for a luncheon with Jewish voters from the state.

“A few hours later, Titus took a turn presiding over the House chamber as Democrats turned back to their ‘jobs agenda,’ advancing a $5.7 billion bill that includes money for job training grants and small-business loans.

“The Nevadan who in January famously told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a private meeting that Democrats would be ‘f—ed’ at the polls this year if they did not focus on bread-and-butter economic issues showed signs she was ready to move on from the colossal debate on health care.”
