NRCC Introduces New ‘On the Radar’ and ‘Contender’ Candidates
Republican Candidates Take Critical Steps Toward ‘Young Gun’ Status

Washington- Today, the National Republican Congressional Committee announced a new round of ‘On the Radar and ‘Contender’ candidates as part of its Young Guns recruitment program. The program was founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI). Young Guns is a member-driven organization that has become an official NRCC program dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. These candidates have proven their remarkable ability to build successful campaign structures and accomplish imperative goals and benchmarks on their road to victory. The candidates reaching ‘On the Radar’ status have taken the first of three steps toward reaching Young Guns status, while those reaching ‘Contender’ status have reached the second step of the program.

“These candidates have made remarkable steps toward victory by meeting the rigorous goals laid out by the Young Guns program,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions. “The early success of these candidates is not only a testament to the strength of the Young Guns program, it is also a sign that Americans are fed up with a Democrat majority that continues to spend too much, tax too much, and borrow too much. As these candidates continue to meet our benchmarks on their road to victory, they will be preparing themselves for tough campaigns to hold Democrats accountable for their big-spending, big-government policies that they have recklessly forced upon the American people.”

While already achieving certain benchmarks to place them on the road to victory, ‘On the Radar’ and ‘Contender’ candidates now face a new set of rigorous benchmarks that will continue to help them build competitive, effective and winning campaigns.
