Internal poll has Allen West well-liked, essentially tied with Klein

| The campaign of Col. Allen West (ret.), probably the 2010 congressional candidate with the biggest Republican fan base, releases an internal survey that has him leading by 2 points, 44 to 42 percent, over Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.). West ran in 2008 and got 45 percent of the vote, boosted by support from national conservatives but lacking real backing from the national party. This time he’s got the support of the NRCC; this should be one of the 40 seats Republicans win if they take control of the House in November.A two-point lead is within the poll’s margin of error — only 400 voters were sampled, typical for a poll like this. But it does indicate that West’s growing national profile — he’s been profiled by National Review and attacked on MNSBC for, among other things, telling supporters to make Klein “afraid to come out of his house” — is not hurting him in a race where no one’s on the airwaves. “Voters who know Allen West like him,” write the pollsters. “Nearly a quarter (23 percent) of voters view Allen West favorably, while fewer than one in ten (8 percent) view him unfavorably.” If there’s any race where Democrats can test their theory that voters will turn away from “angry” tea partiers, it’ll be the this one.Click here to read the full story. |
