Poll: Berg leading Pomeroy for third straight month

Rick Berg is leading Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., in the state’s U.S. House of Representatives race for the third-straight month, according to poll results released Monday.

While the Republican challenger now has a 4 percent lead, his edge over Pomeroy has decreased slightly since March.

Rasmussen Reports surveyed 500 likely North Dakota voters April 20. Nearly half of respondents — 49 percent — planned to vote for Berg this November, while 45 percent said they would support Pomeroy.

Only 4 percent said they weren’t sure who they would vote for, while 2 percent said they planned to support another candidate. The poll has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.

Rasmussen Reports has tracked North Dakota’s U.S. House race for the past three months.

A March 23 poll put Berg ahead by 7 percent — 51 percent to 44 percent — and 46 percent favored Berg while 40 percent planned to vote for Pomeroy in a Feb. 9-10 poll. The latest survey shows Berg’s lead has gone down to 4 percent.

Berg, a Fargo state legislator who got the GOP endorsement at last month’s state convention in Grand Forks, is facing competition for the party nomination. Kenmare, N.D., oil consultant J.D. Donaghe is challenging Berg in the June 8 primary elections.

Pomeroy, the state’s lone member of the U.S. House, is running for a 10th term.
