Young To Face Rep. Hill In Indiana's 9th District

SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) — Republican voters have decided that former Rep. Mike Sodrel won’t have a fifth shot at Democratic Rep. Baron Hill.

Bloomington attorney Todd Young narrowly won the Republican primary, with about 34 percent of the vote. Columbus real-estate investor Travis Hankins followed with 32 percent, while Sodrel received 30 percent.

Hill defeated four challengers in Tuesday’s Democratic primary in Indiana’s 9th District.

Hill and Sodrel had faced each other in each congressional election since 2002. Sodrel won the seat in 2004, but Hill recaptured it two years later and won the 2008 election with nearly 58 percent of the vote.

Young had the support of many Republican leaders and argued that it was time for another candidate to take on Hill.
