Titus on a string?
The Republican Party is targeting Rep. Dina Titus on a new website that sets out to tie her to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi like a puppet on a string.
Along with nine other Democrats the GOP believes are vulnerable, the website cites the percentage of votes (as calculated by The Washington Post) that the Nevadan has cast in support of her party’s positions, including on controversial health care, budget, stimulus and energy bills.
It also listed 19 people who have given money to Titus and also to Pelosi, in an attempt to link the incumbent to the speaker’s “donor network.”
A Titus aide said the site is misleading. Titus has known at least eight of the listed donors years before she got to Congress, Andrew Stoddard said. He said the party unity figures are inflated because they count all votes, even noncontroversial and routine ones.
“This is a typical misleading attack by the Republican smear machine that can’t seem to get its facts straight,” Stoddard said in a statement.
