Frustration with Pelosi rises among Democrats

June 29, 2010

Are you disappointed with the “leadership” you see in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi? You aren’t alone.

American voters are fed up with the Democrat majority in Congress and now, according to Forbes magazine, we can put a name to the frustration: Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Citing a Pew Poll, more Americans than ever are dissatisfied with Pelosi – 50% had an unfavorable opinion of her while only 27% had a favorable opinion of her.

More importantly for the make-up of House leadership, Pelosi is losing favor with her own party. Forbes writes that moderate Democrats in Congress are beginning to view Pelosi as “more of a problem than a plus.” With every House Democrat facing re-election this November, Democrat Representatives have every reason to be worried about their association with Speaker Pelosi. While Pelosi has been busy driving away moderate Democrats and members of her own party, a number of Republicans have risen to challenge the Democrats who are most closely associated with her.

One of Pelosi’s most unapologetic supporters is Mary Jo Kilroy, the Democrat who represents Ohio’s 15th district. She will be made to defend her record of voting with Pelosi over 98% of the time in November, when she faces Steve Stivers, a Young Gun member of the GOP.

The race in Ohio’s 15th is just one example of many where the National Republican Congressional Committee is looking to stop Pelosi’s reign. If you’re as worried as we are that the leadership in Congress is viewed so unfavorably even within her own party, check out our Call to Arms.
