Dems' Budget Games: a Dereliction of Duty

July 8, 2010

The average voter can balance a checkbook, do his or her job, and make a dollar last when necessary. So why can’t Democrats do the same? In the Washington Post, David Broder details how elected Dems have repeatedly failed to propose a budget resolution for the country. Not only are they failing to do their jobs, but they’re trying to cover their tracks with a game of bait and switch. Speaker Nancy Pelosi “brazenly hailed the one-year substitute [resolution] as ‘another key step . . . in restoring fiscal responsibility.’” Does failing to pass the budget to guide our nation’s spending for the next year sound like fiscal responsibility? Sounds more like, in the words of David Broder, “a dereliction of duty.

The Democrats have failed to take the steps necessary to restore jobs, effectively reform healthcare, and, now, be responsible with the money of working Americans. Democrats must be too busy roughing up constituents and discriminating between “minorities” and “average” Americans. We agree with Broder, who writes that “of all the times for Congress to abandon its responsibility for long-term fiscal planning, this is the worst.”

This fall, voters are going to hold Democrats accountable – since the party itself has proven that it’s incapable of doing so. Join in our efforts to take back the House by checking out our NRCC Call to Arms.
