Berg gains in latest Rasmussen poll
| The latest monthly polls from Rasmussen Reports continue to show strength for Republican candidates in North Dakota’s House and Senate races.
The House race, which has consistently been viewed as a toss-up by most national political observers, showed the most change of the two Rasmussen polls over July but still gave the advantage to GOP challenger Rick Berg. Rasmussen’s results showed Berg with 53 percent of voters’ support, compared to 44 percent for incumbent Democrat Earl Pomeroy. Of those polled, 1 percent favored some other candidate, while 3 percent were undecided. The August results show a wider gap over last month’s House poll, which found 49 percent for Berg and 46 percent for Pomeroy, the tightest results to date between the two candidates. Berg’s 53 percent is his highest amount of support yet, although he has consistently led Pomeroy by a slight margin in Rasmussen’s seven months of polling on the race. Meanwhile, in North Dakota’s Senate race, Republican candidate Gov. John Hoeven continues a wide breadth of support over Democratic-NPL candidate Tracy Potter. In Rasmussen’s August poll, Hoeven garnered 69 percent of support, compared to Potter’s 25 percent. Among those polled, 1 percent favored another candidate and 5 percent were undecided. Those results show little change over July. Hoeven’s percentage of support remained steady, while Potter picked up a few percentage points, apparently from undecided voters. Rasmussen Reports queried 500 likely North Dakota voters in separate surveys done on Aug. 10-11. The results in both polls have a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points. Democrats have said they don’t take stock in Rasmussen’s polls because the poll results tend to lean conservative due to founder Scott Rasmussen’s former ties to the GOP. |
