David Schweikert Advances to Top Level of Young Guns Program
Arizona Republican Reaches ‘Young Gun’ Status with Clear Path to Victory

Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Republican David Schweikert (AZ-05) has reached ‘Young Gun’ status, the premiere level of its three-tiered Young Guns program. By advancing to the program’s top tier, Schweikert has proven his ability to build a winning campaign and achieve substantial fundraising goals.

“David Schweikert is ready to take on incumbent Harry Mitchell, an out-of-touch Democrat who has recklessly supported his party’s runaway spending spree which has led to unacceptably high unemployment and joblessness,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “David’s campaign is a symbol of the growing momentum behind Republican candidacies in Arizona and across the country. As Democrats and their party bosses continue to push their big-government, big-spending policies onto the backs of hard-working families, Republicans like David Schweikert will continue to present a clear alternative to a Democrat majority that continues to spend too much, borrow too much and tax too much.”

Small businessman David Schweikert understands what Arizona needs to get people back to work. As someone who has met payroll, created jobs and balanced his businesses’ budgets, he has the real world experience that Washington needs. As Treasurer of Maricopa County, Schweikert was responsible for protecting billions of dollars of taxpayer money. Knowing that his policies affect four million residents, Schweikert executed a program to make the tax system easier to use and understand and dramatically improved operations in the Treasurer’s office. Prior to being elected County Treasurer, Schweikert served in the Arizona State House of Representatives, where he was recognized as an advocate for taxpayers. He also chaired the State Board of Equalization. His lengthy record as a public servant and guardian of taxpayer dollars stands in stark contrast to the free-spending Washington Democrats who have sunk the country into record debt.

Originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI) as a member-driven organization, the Young Guns program has become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Reps. Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan remain actively involved in Young Guns, working together to recruit and prime conservative leaders for victory.

Now that David Schweikert has completed the Young Guns’ benchmarks to place him on the road to victory, he is ready to hold loyal lapdog Democrat Harry Mitchell accountable in November.
