How Much Does EBJ Make from a Concession at Love Field?

September 7, 2010

“Questions about how much money U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) has cleared from her piece of the concessions business at Love Field have been swirling for a long time.”

“It’s hard to know how much Johnson made at Love Field as a partial owner of Hudson Retail Dallas – the company that controls book and newsstand sales at the airport.”

“We know that Johnson holds 15 percent of Hudson Retail Dallas in a trust. What the trust provides Hudson is unclear except that, according to the city, the company uses it to help qualify as disadvantaged business enterprise because Johnson is a minority female.”

“We don’t know what Johnson’s terms are with the majority owners of Hudson. But it’s fair to say that, typically, a 15 percent owner would receive 15 percent of profit.

“So what are the profits she can share in? That is not publically known.

“But what is known are the company’s gross receipts, reported to the city as part of the company’s annual payments to Love Field.”

“They show millions of dollars in sales revenues.”
