Will Target Dems Pledge Support for an Up-or-Down Vote on Planned Tax Hikes Before Recess?
Will Harry Mitchell Pledge Support for an Up-or-Down Vote on Planned Tax Hikes Before Recess?
NRCC Launches New Website: “Democrat Tax Tracker”
Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee announced today that it launched a new website – Democrat Tax Tracker – aimed at pressuring vulnerable Democrats like Harry Mitchell to commit to an up-or-down vote on their party’s scheduled tax hikes before leaving Washington to return to the campaign trail. With the economy still reeling from the consequences of the Democrats’ failed economic policies, Arizona families and small businesses are bracing for the impact of higher taxes during an already devastating recession. With that in mind, the NRCC is calling on Mitchell to pledge that he would vote against his party’s reckless tax plan before Congress finishes its last session before Election Day.
“If Harry Mitchell is serious about turning the economy around and creating an environment that allows America’s small businesses to grow, he will pledge support for an up-or-down vote to stop the job-killing Obama tax hike,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “Working families and small business owners across the country are bracing for massive tax hikes, but Democrats keep kicking the can down the road. Unless Mitchell pledges to end these scheduled tax hikes immediately, families and small businesses are left to deal with more uncertainty and fewer jobs during an already devastating recession.”
The Democrats failure to act on their scheduled tax hikes would dip into the wallets of every American who earns a paycheck:
“Democratic leaders returning to Washington next week will confront the daunting task of extending Bush-era tax cuts, which could haunt them if handled incorrectly.
“Failure to act on the Bush tax cuts before next year will cut take-home-pay in every paycheck across America.” (Jay Heflin, “Inaction on Bush Tax Cuts Would Pinch Wallets Across Country and Cost Dems,” The Hill, 9/11/10)
These tax hikes would hit small businesses the hardest – the very segment of the economy that is supposed to drive recovery and put Americans back to work:
“The numbers are clear. According to IRS data, fully 48% of the net income of sole proprietorships, partnerships, and S corporations reported on tax returns went to households with incomes above $200,000 in 2007.” (Kevin A. Hassett and Alan D. Viard, “The Small Business Tax Hike and the 97% Fallacy,” Wall Street Journal, 9/3/10)
Will Harry Mitchell pledge to support an up-or-down vote on their devastating tax scheme or will they stay silent as the American people brace for impact?
