Perry rises to 'young gun' in national GOP
Jeffrey Perry, the Republican candidate in the 10th Congressional District, is rising to a new level in the eyes of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Last night, Perry told radio talk show host Howie Carr that he had risen to the level of “young gun” in the committee’s campaign to help Republicans win seats across the country.
A source close to the decision confirmed that Perry, a Sandwich state representative now running to fill U.S. Rep. William Delahunt’s seat, had achieved that top level and is only one of three Republicans in New England to have earned this level.
Perry’s “young gun” status is expected to be officially announced later this morning, the source said.
It’s yet another example that nationally Republicans see Perry’s race against Democrat William Keating and three independent candidates as winnable.
The other two New England young guns – Charlie Bass and Frank Guinta – are in Congressional races in New Hampshire, according the committee’s website.
The “young gun” status should mean more national money coming into the 10th Congressional race, Perry told Carr last night.
Young guns are judged on their “campaign infrastructure, fundraising, communications and grass roots,” the source said. Perry had already climbed up those ranks achieving “on the radar” and “contender” status during the primary.
