Republican Tim Walberg has edge in new poll

September 23, 2010

An independent poll shows Republican Tim Walberg with a slight advantage over incumbent Democrat Mark Schauer in the 7th Congressional District election.
Of the 300 likely voters polled, 42.3 percent said they would support Walberg and 38 percent said they would support Schauer. The 4.3 percentage point spread was within the poll’s 5.6 point margin of error.
Of those surveyed, 12 percent said they were undecided.
The automated phone survey of district residents was conducted Monday by the Rossman Group, a Lansing public relations firm, and the polling company Team Telcom.
“We don’t put much stock in automated robo-polls, but for those who do, Tim Walberg has gone from a 10-point lead to a statistical dead heat in just a few short weeks,” Schauer campaign spokesman Zack Pohl said in a statement. “It seems clear voters are rejecting Tim Walberg’s radical plan to privatize Social Security and abolish Medicare.”
Walberg spokesman Joe Wicks said voters know they can trust Walberg to take on the Democratic agenda.
“Despite Mark Schauer and his special interest friends spending millions already, Congressman Schauer is stuck in the 30s because of his votes for trillions in new spending, Obamacare and job-destroying tax hikes,” Wicks said.
