Pence raises money for Hurt

October 5, 2010

U.S. Rep. Mike Pence, R-IN, will raise money for state Sen. Robert Hurt’s bid to oust Democrat Tom Perriello in the 5th Congressional district.

Carol and Chick Childress are hosting the event in New Canton on Saturday afternoon.

Pence is popular among conservative Republicans. He won the 2010 presidential straw poll at the recent Values Voter Summit with 24 percent of the vote. He also scored at the top in the vice presidential straw poll, followed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Hurt, a lawyer from Chatham, is working to raise money and close the large cash advantage Perriello has—about $1.7 million in cash on hand as of June 30 to Hurt’s $215,954.
