Keown raises $377,000 in third quarter

ALBANY, Ga. — With the general election less than three weeks away, Republican District 2 congressional candidate Mike Keown’s campaign has reportedly raised enough cash to make strong stretch run as the race for Rep. Sanford Bishop Jr.’s seat heats up.

Finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday show Keown’s campaign has posted record breaking fundraising numbers, raising nearly $377,000 from individual contributors and political committees for the third quarter of 2010.

Bishop communication spokesman Tim Turner said the congressman’s campaign raised $539,630 and now has $575,131 cash on hand.

According to a news release from Keown’s campaign, to date, the campaign has received contributions from more than 2,200 donors, more than 85 percent of which reside in Georgia. In addition to making more than 26,000 personal volunteer calls, the campaign has received more than 1,200 donations of under $100.

This latest report exceeds the campaign’s previous best report by more than a quarter of a million dollars and brings total campaign contributions to more than $745,000 cash to date as reported Oct. 1.

“When I set out to run for Congress, I said that we would raise the necessary resources to get our message out,” Keown said. “I am honored that so many have invested their hard earned resources in this campaign to change Washington.”

The FEC requires candidates seeking federal office to periodically file campaign finance reports and those reports filed by Keown’s campaign Tuesday cover the period of July 1 through Sept. 30, 2010.
