Barela challenges Heinrich for 1st District seat

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Rep. Martin Heinrich is proud of his first term in Congress and says Democrats deserve more credit for accomplishments that weren’t as well publicized – or contentious – as President Barack Obama’s stimulus funding or health care reform.
Still, the freshman finds himself in a razor-thin race for re-election against Republican Jon Barela. Two years ago, Heinrich shifted the 1st Congressional District to the Democrats’ column for the first time since it was created in 1968.
