Hanna in Auburn, Cuomo Endorses Arcuri

October 25, 2010

Busy day (and weekend) in the 24th Congressional District race.

Richard Hanna came to Auburn Monday as he embarked on a “whistlestop tour” of the district.

He started at Parker’s on Genesee Street where he shook hands with people having lunch at the local restaurant. He then strolled down Genesee Street and stopped at businesses along the way. He also walked down a short stretch of State Street and stopped at Nash’s and All Tied Up Yarns.

Hanna chatted with business owners and asked how difficult the environment was for them, being that all of the owners he spoke to were small business owners.

Throughout his travels in the district, Hanna said he hears about the property taxes businesses and individuals have to pay and the toll it takes.

“The more people are burdened, the more likely they are to leave (the area),” Hanna said.

Hanna made stops in Ontario and Seneca counties before coming to Cayuga County. Aside from his tour of downtown Auburn, he stopped at Auburn Correctional Facility to shake hands with guards and he visited Dickman Farms.

Arcuri endorsed by Cuomo

Endorsements are typical in any campaign, but some may matter more than others.

Rep. Michael Arcuri announced a significant endorsement as Attorney General Andrew Cuomo — the Democratic Party’s nominee for governor — backed him during a campaign stop over the weekend.

“I can’t tell you how important it is that Michael is in Washington for us.” Cuomo said during his speech in Oriskany on Friday and included in an Arcuri campaign press release sent Monday.

Cuomo isn’t the only big Democratic name coming to support Arcuri.

Former President Bill Clinton will be in the 24th on Friday to endorse Arcuri at an event in Utica.
