36 Days Left as Obama Continues to Block Keystone Jobs

January 16, 2011

Despite Broad Coalition of Job Creators Urging Keystone Approval, Workers Are Still Waiting on Obama to End Bureaucratic Delay of Job Creation

Despite a vast alliance of job creators and local officials urging President Obama to stop blocking the creation of tens of thousands of Keystone jobs, President Obama continues to delay this immediate job creation opportunity. American workers are left wondering if President Obama will once again prioritize political payback for his Washington friends over real job creation:

CATERPILLAR: “For Caterpillar’s Pipeline Business, the North American or U.S. Pipeline opportunity is very important. It represents over half of our worldwide pipeline sales, and we sell a number of dedicated purpose built products, along with traditional excavator and tractor products to consumers in this industry. These products are manufactured domestically and also support aftermarket service jobs throughout the U.S. at our local dealer distributors.” (Caterpillar letter to U.S. State Department, 7/8/2010)

OMAHA FEDERATION OF LABOR, AFL-CIO: The proposed Keystone crude oil pipeline stands to create good-paying jobs and economic stimulus to Nebraska and the United States. … In 2009, Laborers Local 1140, Operating Engineers Local 571, and Teamsters Local 554 helped construct the Keystone Pipeline through eastern Nebraska. The work came at a time when we were facing significant reductions in other construction work. This project created job that sustained Nebraska working families at a very difficult time. … As President of the Nebraska and Southwest Iowa Building Construction Trades in Omaha, I am pleased at the jobs this project will bring. As a Nebraskan, I am pleased with the economic stimulus and the benefits for our state.” (Omaha Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO letter, 9/9/2010)
