The Obama-Matheson Budget: More Taxes. More Spending. More Borrowing.
Democrats’ Budget Destroys Jobs by Doubling-Down on Failed Agenda, Offers No New Solutions to Reduce Deficit

Washington — Despite rhetoric from Democrats pledging to get serious about fiscal reform and downsizing the federal government, President Obama’s newly unveiled budget proposal for next year only offers more of the increased spending, taxing and borrowing that voters have decisively rejected. Utah Democrat Jim Matheson’s leaders in Washington continue to push the same failed policies which have exploded our federal deficit and hampered small businesses from creating jobs. Matheson will have a tough choice to make in deciding whether he will continue his party’s calls for more spending, taxing and borrowing in spite of the wishes of his Utah constituents.

“Jim Matheson’s Democrat leaders have again shown they lack the courage to address the fundamental fiscal and economic problems that continue to hold back America’s small businesses from creating jobs,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Instead, Democrats in Washington have made it clear that they will double-down on the policies that continue to push this country toward bankruptcy and place more burdens on job creators. It remains to be seen whether Matheson understands what his constituents already do, which is that more spending, taxing and borrowing does nothing but destroy jobs.”

“Those strategies would do little to improve the immediate budget outlook. Obama projects that the deficit will hit a record $1.6 trillion this year – which, at nearly 11 percent of the economy, would be the largest since World War II.” (Lori Montgomery, “Obama to offer $3.7 trillion budget blueprint; deficit to hit $1.6 trillion this year,” Washington Post, 2/14/11)

Unfortunately, the President has failed to take a stand and make the fundamental changes that voters have been calling for in reaction to a rapidly growing deficit and abysmal job numbers. Will Jim Matheson continue to support his Democrat leaders’ wrongheaded proposals, or will he finally demonstrate that he understands more spending, more taxing and more borrowing only hurts the private sector and places even more burdens on small businesses?
