Washington — While voters and local political leaders across the country are recognizing that government needs to live within its means, Utah Democrat Jim Matheson continues to quietly stand with his party leaders in D.C. who are intent on preserving the unsustainable status quo as record debt levels continue to threaten economic recovery. As the new NRCC web video details, it seems as if only Washington Democrats like Matheson continue to cling to the belief that it’s a good idea to keep spending money you don’t have.
“This video demonstrates just how out of touch Washington Democrats like Jim Matheson have become as they remain oblivious to the problems that lie ahead for our country if government spending isn’t tackled and reined in,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “While state governments and middle-class families are doing whatever is necessary to tighten their belts and weather the current economic storm, out-of-touch Washington Democrat Jim Matheson has failed to listen to their calls for responsible and efficient spending. Instead, he has insisted on the same approach that resulted in the record deficit now projected at $1.65 trillion.”
If Jim Matheson wants to change his ways, he can stop rejecting comprehensive plans to downsize government and start proposing substantial cuts that take aim at the waste of taxpayer money we know exists in the federal government.
