VIDEO: G.O.P. Hits Obama on Deficit

March 17, 2011

Republicans in Washington believe they have the upper hand when it comes to dealing honestly with the nation’s debt, and a new video by the National Republican Campaign Committee aims to exploit that advantage.

The video, obtained by The Caucus, shows President Obama talking about the need for action to confront the country’s financial challenges.

“We’ve got to get a handle on our deficits,” Mr. Obama says in the video, which is scheduled to be made public Thursday morning. “We need to spend less, save more and get our federal deficit under control.”

The implication is that Mr. Obama talks a good game but doesn’t follow through. By using the president’s own words, Republicans hope to drive home that message, even as they remain deadlocked over a permanent solution to the current budget.

The video ends with Mr. Obama saying that “Americans are tired of politicians who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to fiscal responsibility.” It cuts to a screen that says: “All Talk. No Action.”
