Rahall Voted for Job-Destroying Healthcare Law One Year Ago Today
West Virginia Constituents Won’t Forget the Democrat’s Big-Government Record

Washington — As Nick Rahall faces increasing backlash against his big-government record, we can remember that it was exactly one year ago today that he voted for the big-spending, job-crushing healthcare bill that has since become law. Just one year later, many ObamaCare supporters are already having regrets as new burdens are being placed on small businesses and the national debt continues to skyrocket. As West Virginia voters grow increasingly critical of Rahall’s record, they shouldn’t forget his support for the big-spending, job-destroying status quo that he and his fellow Democrats continue to defend to this day.

“Nick Rahall’s constituents in West Virginia shouldn’t forget how he marched right alongside the Democrat spending spree that preceded the record deficit we now face, and his vote for ObamaCare exactly one year ago today is a shining example,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “This makes Rahall’s electoral future as uncertain as ever, since debt is still being piled onto middle-class families and burdens are still being placed on small businesses throughout West Virginia as a result of the harmful Democrat policies he supports.”

One year ago today, Nick Rahall helped pass ObamaCare in the House. (H.R. 4872, Roll Call Vote #167: Passed 220-211: D 220-33; R 0-178, 3/21/10; H.R. 3590, Roll Call Vote #165: Passed 219-212: D 219-34; R 0-178, 3/21/10)

Despite its unpopularity with voters, Democrats continue to stand by their job-crushing law:

“President Obama’s healthcare reform law remains as controversial as ever one year after its enactment as Democrats and reform proponents prepare to celebrate the anniversary with almost 200 events across the country next week.

“The stakes couldn’t be higher as public opinion remains split on the president’s signature domestic achievement and judicial threats loom. One federal court has already stricken down the law’s individual mandate – a cornerstone of the law’s insurance market reforms – and another has tossed out the whole law.”
(Julian Pecquet, “One year later: Backers of Obama healthcare law preparing to defend,” The Hill, 3/20/11)

West Virginia voters should remember how it was exactly one year ago today that Nick Rahall voted for the deficit-busting spending and red tape that ObamaCare brought with it. Although Rahall might talk about his independent thinking, he has a clear history of standing by his Democrat leaders’ harmful big-government agenda when it matters most.
