New York Democrat’s Party Leaders to Introduce Tax Hikes that Would Burden 894,000 Small Businesses
Washington — Tim Bishop and his Democrat leaders are continuing to cling to their failed big-government policies as President Obama prepares to unveil new tax increases later this week. However, Bishop will have to consider that his party’s tax increases would do little to fight the deficit and raise taxes on an estimated 894,000 small businesses across America. Will Bishop continue to make matters worse for the families and small businesses in New York already struggling with high unemployment and rising prices for food and gas?
“The best evidence that Tim Bishop and his fellow Democrats still don’t have their priorities straight is demonstrated with their consideration of tax increases which would stifle 894,000 small businesses and lead to massive layoffs,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Bishop and his fellow Democrats clearly aren’t listening to constituents who are urging them to tackle the looming fiscal disaster they created. To make matters worse, Bishop clings to the same failed policies that would continue to destroy jobs and further stunt economic growth.”
President Obama is revising his first budget plan with calls to increase taxes for families and small businesses:
“Eliminating the Bush tax cuts for the highest earners, however, will only put a small dent in the projected deficit.”
(Carol E. Lee and Damian Paletta, “Obama Puts Taxes on Table,” Wall Street Journal, 4/11/11)However, even just the income tax increase proposal alone would affect an estimated 894,000 small businesses, sometimes forcing multiple layoffs and hurting economic growth. (Jonathan Karl, “Fact Checking the Tax-Cut Debate,” ABC News, 9/8/10)
Given that Tim Bishop and his party leaders are putting forward tax increases to solve the budget crisis their Democrat spending spree left behind, it appears that they are not ready to get serious about addressing the root causes of our fiscal problems. Families and small businesses in New York should know that Bishop’s support for these new Democrat tax increases would affect an estimated 894,000 small businesses across the country, crushing job creation during an increasingly fragile economic situation.
